What is Gymshark's Commitment to Sustainability?

Find out what we're doing to care for our environment through our Sustainability efforts.

Updated this week

Sustainability isn’t a cultural trend, a political stance or another box to tick. IT IS OUR MISSION.

We know we’re not as good as we can or want to be, but we’re growing, learning and improving every year. We’re serious about progress - because our planet doesn’t have time for empty words, and neither do we.

Sustainability can mean a lot of different things to different people. At Gymshark, it is currently guided by three foundational pillars: CLIMATE. ETHICAL. CIRCULARITY.

So, what are we doing...

REDUCING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

We have set targets, backed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), to reduce:

  • Emissions from our supply chain by 54% per unit sold by 2030.

  • Emissions from our own operations by 40% by 2030.

We’re tackling this through material choices, supplier partnerships and smarter manufacturing:

  • Using lower-impact materials

    • In FY24, 80% of our polyester came from recycled sources.

    • In FY24, cotton made up nearly 40% of the fibres we bought, so to strengthen cotton traceability to farm level, we partnered with Oritain.

  • Designing products that last, while using technology that reduces fabric waste.

    • Our Seamless technology (used in collections like Vital) produces almost one third of the fabric waste of traditional cut-and-sew methods.

  • Utilising renewable electricity in our Solihull office space.

    • In FY24, our Solihull campus ran on 100% renewable electricity!

  • Aiming to reduce air freight and shifting to sea freight (now making up 83% of shipments) to reduce transport emissions.

  • Working with Veolia to divert waste from landfill at our UK sites.

  • Using a minimum of 30% recycled content for our mailing bags.

ALWAYS RESPECTING HUMAN RIGHTS

Behind every product is a network of skilled people. Doing right by them is FUNDAMENTAL.

  • We are members of the Fair Labour Association (FLA), collaborating to ensure that workers in factories and on farms are paid fairly and protected from risks to their health, safety, and wellbeing.

  • We launched Shared Fitness in 2023, which is our bespoke programme covering ethical, environmental and technical standards.

  • All suppliers must follow the Gymshark Code of Conduct, covering safe conditions, fair wages, no forced or child labour, and respect for human rights.

  • Between November 2023 and March 2025 we completed 174 Shared Fitness audits across our supply chain.

  • We are signatories to the International Accord, focused on accident prevention through health and safety measure enhancement. 100% of our Tier 1 factories in Bangladesh are registered under the Accord.

  • Since 2023, 105 individual factory grades improved from lower ratings (C/D) to A/B (provisional).

IMPROVING OUR PRODUCT

We want products that perform hard in the gym and last in your wardrobe.

  • We design with durability in mind and are working on ways to reuse and recycle materials.

  • We’re exploring circular business models to keep products in use for longer.

    • In FY24, we launched a pilot in North America that prevented 266,000 lbs of product from going to waste (59% donated to charities, 41% recycled).

    • Unsold samples from an employee sample sale were shredded and repurposed as boxing bag filling for local clubs.

COMMUNITY & POSITIVE IMPACT

Our impact goes beyond products.

  • In FY24, we donated £80,526 to charities.

  • Since 2020, we’ve donated over £500,000 to Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

  • Through our employee volunteering scheme, staff get paid time to support causes that matter to them.
